What was your first cat (name, breed and colour)?
My first cat ever was a tabby & white semi longhair mog called Soda.
My first pedigree was an Oriental Black called Lettuce. |
How did you get into breeding? |
Lettuce (above) had an accidental litter which gave me the addiction to
newborn kittens and from there I acquired two breeding queens and so and so
on. |
How did you decide on your breeders prefix? |
Cloudborn could be said to be a dreamer and a little bit fanciful. I liked
the sound of it too. Could be interpreted as ‘in your dreams’ as well! |
How do you decide on kitten names? |
That’s a trade secret! |
What attracted to you to the LaPerm’s? |
The idea of a new challenge within the rex group. I like the cat, I like
working seriously to produce something rather than just to have random
kittens. |
Who was your first LaPerm? |
| That was ‘Big’, Cycada Native American came to me courtesy of Eddie Sipos. He is a huge character. | |||
What is life like with a LaPerm? |
Chaotic, ever changing, interesting |
What advice would you give to someone wanting to
start breeding and/or showing? |
Start with a neuter to show. This lets you get to know the breed and the other breeders. It also lets the other breeders assess you. Listen to older, more experienced breeders even when you don’t like what they may be saying. Be up front from the beginning and say that you are looking for a breeding queen so that you can be pointed in the direction of the most suitable kittens. Start with one or at the most two queens. Do not get a stud cat at this stage. Ask your queen’s breeder or stud owners for advice regarding suitable studs to use. Aim to be a reputable breeder without hurry do it slowly. |
